Volunteer Position:
Thistle Patrol 
Purpose of the Position:
Contribute to pesticide free areas by joining a group of dedicated volunteers to hand pull invasive Canada Thistle and other weeds.

Various. Southside
Hours:In 2007 Tuesday evenings during the summer. 
 Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
Remove invasive species through hand weeding, monitoring condition and abundance of some native plants of special interest.
Supervision:You will work closely with the lead volunteer on the project. You will also be in contact with the volunteer coordinator. 
 Selection Criteria:
You need to enjoy being outside and getting your hands dirty. We invite all levels of plant knowledge as experienced volunteers are on-site to provide training.

ENG's goal is to promote the use of native wildflowers and grasses in gardening and landscaping. This is done through educating groups and individuals on native plants, providing native plants to volunteers, groups, and members of the public, and participating in restoration and protection of native plant populations.
 Contribution to the community:
Native plants are adapted to the environmental conditions of the area, as such they generally require less care resulting in lower costs. Further, native plants are attractive to native wildlife. Thus, the restoration of natural areas can help to attract and maintain native wildlife populations which can be enjoyed by local residents.
  Skills acquired:
  • Plant identification
  • Restoration knowledge and experience
  • Recognize the importance of natural areas in maintaining native wildlife populations and decreasing maintenance costs.
  • There are also opportunities to gain leadership skills and experience.
Training:Volunteers will receive on-site training 
General information:
  • Work as part of a team
  • Public transport to site is available
  • Times are  somewhat flexible
  • This site is not wheelchair accessible.
