Restoration at Whitemud Park
| Volunteer Position: | Restoration |
| Purpose of the Position: | Participate
in restoration projects with the Edmonton Naturalization Group. The goal of
these projects is to reintroduce native plants to specific areas that are
currently dominated by invasive species. |

| Hours: | Work parties are generally organized for a couple hours on weekday evenings depending on availabilities. |
| Principle Duties and Responsibilities: | Remove invasive species through hand weeding, sawing, and some herbicide application (optional for volunteers). Planting native species and monitor progress |
| Supervision: | You will work closely with the lead volunteer on the project. You will also be in contact with the volunteer coordinator. |
| Selection Criteria: | You need to enjoy being outside and getting your hands dirty. We invite all levels of plant knowledge as experienced volunteers are on-site to provide training. |
| Benefits of the Role: | Contribution to achieving the Edmonton Naturalization Groups Mission and goals: ENG's goal is to promote the use of native wildflowers and grasses in gardening and landscaping. This is done through educating groups and individuals on native plants, providing native plants to volunteers, groups, and members of the public, and participating in restoration and protection of native plant populations. |
| Contribution to the community: Native plants are adapted to the environmental conditions of the area, as such they generally require less care resulting in lower costs. Further, native plants are attractive to native wildlife. Thus, the restoration of natural areas can help to attract and maintain native wildlife populations which can be enjoyed by local residents. | |
